Kolmi Shak with Jackfruit Seeds – A Traditional Bengali Recipe is a unique preparation. Food lovers may like this recipe.

My least favourite fruit is jackfruit. However, the preparations made by its seeds are very amazing. We can make different dishes with these seeds and each dish has its unique level of delicacy.

Main Ingredients used

Jackfruit Seeds 

Jackfruit is a tropical fruit that is produced all over the world. The flavour of jackfruit is sweet and delicious. Minerals like zinc, calcium, iron, copper, magnesium and potassium are also present in minor levels in the seeds.

Jackfruit seeds are high in vitamin and riboflavin, which aid in the conversion of food into energy and maintain the health of our eyes, skin, and hair.

Kolmi Shak

Kolmi Shak, sometimes known as water spinach, is a popular green leafy vegetable in South and Southeast Asian cuisine. Salads, braised dishes, and stir-fries all benefit from its pleasantly sweet, mucilaginous, succulent leaves and stems.

The scientific name of it is Ipomoea Aquatica Forsk. It reduces cholesterol, treats jaundice and liver disorders and is very effective in the treatment of anaemia.


There are 300 different kinds of prawns on the globe. There are only a few that can be used for commercial reasons. Bagda prawn, Lobster, Shiba prawn, Giant tiger prawn and White prawn are some of the options in our seafood market.

Selenium, one of the most efficient antioxidants for supporting healthy cells, is abundant in prawns. They also have a lot of zinc, which is necessary for a healthy immune system to develop.


The potato is a starchy tuber of the plant Solanum tuberosum, which is a perennial nightshade. It is a root vegetable native to the Americas. It is both inexpensive and simple to digest.

Vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants abound in potatoes. It is healthy food. It promotes immunity, improves blood sugar management, and lowers the risk of heart disease.


Pumpkins belong to the same plant family as cucumbers and melons, and they are a form of winter squash.  It is typically spherical and orange in colour.

Pumpkins include vitamin C, vitamin E, iron, and folate, in addition to beta carotene, all of which help to boost the immune system. More pumpkin in your diet can help your immune cells fight viruses and heal faster when you have a wound.

Green Chilli

Green chilli is an essential ingredient in Indian cuisine. It grows all over the year. It is spicy in taste and is of two colours green and red.

Green chilli is high in vitamin C, so consuming it can help keep your skin looking young and healthy. Green chiles can aid with digestion as well as cancer prevention.

Tips for Kolmi Shak with Jackfruit Seeds

♣ Must clean, dry and half boil Jackfruit seeds properly.

♣ Do not mix Kolmi leaves with its stems. Use the leaves section to make another preparation.

♣ Chopped prawns make the dish tastier than the whole prawns.

♣ Cutting all vegetables in the same small square size is important for better texture.

For IngredientsDabur Cold Pressed Mustard Oil, Amul Ghee, Nimwash Vegetable & Fruit Wash.



Kolmi Shak with Jackfruit Seeds recipe is a traditional one. It is not at all hard to cook. After properly cleaning the jackfruit seeds, dry them in the sun. From March to June, jackfruit is available. So this preparation is appropriate for this time.

Step 1

Wash the Kolmi Shak, pumpkin, potato, green chilli by using vegetable and fruit wash.

Step 2

Wash the jackfruit seeds under the water thoroughly. Dry all seeds in the sunlight properly.

Step 3

Remove the leafy section of the Kolmi Shak stem. Chop stems into 1/2-inch pieces, about the size of a fingernail. Keep leafy section separately. This section is not required for this preparation. You can make another dish with this leafy section.

Step 4

Take a non-stick or aluminium saucepan and fill it with 1 cup of water. Turn on the gas. Add jackfruit seeds and half boil the seeds on high flame.

Step 5

Remove the bowl from the gas and let be cool.

Step 6

Chop potato, pumpkin and green chilli into a small square shape.

Step 7

Remove the skin of jackfruit seeds and chop like other vegetables.

Step 8

Cut prawns into small pieces. It improves the flavour as well as the texture.

Step 9

Take a non-stick Kadai or frying pan. Turn on the gas. Pour mustard oil and heat the oil.

Step 10

Add black cumin whole in the heated oil.

Step 11

Add all vegetables, prawns, jackfruit seeds and Kolmi stems. Stir well.

Step 12

Cover it with a lid and cook for 5 minutes on low flame.

Step 13

Add turmeric powder, Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder, salt and sugar. Mix well so that all spices are evenly mixed with all ingredients.

Step 14

Cover it and cook for another 5 minutes on a low flame.

Step 15

Add ghee and mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.

Step 16

Yummy 😋 Kolmi Shak with jackfruit seeds is ready. Serve it with hot steamed rice.
